Welcome to the photographic world of Laurent Baheux, a photographer committed to the animal cause, who shares the portraits and landscapes of his encounters in the most beautiful parts of Africa, in the Arctic and elsewhere... His black-and-white photographs of the wildlife he has been immortalizing for over 20 years are available as prints in various formats and finishes, with or without frames. Laurent is also the author of several books on wildlife. So you can bring a bit of the animal kingdom into your home: lions, elephants, leopards, zebras, giraffes, rhinoceroses, polar bears, seals, foxes or reindeer, free and wild in their natural habitat, will surely not leave you indifferent. Their gaze, charged with emotion, strength and fragility, arouses admiration and wonder. Let yourself be transported by his contemplative, gentle and poetic approach, which questions our relationship with other living species...
For over 20 years, Laurent has been observing the wild world through his lens. A vocation that came to him "as a reaction to the madness of mankind". "My images invite us to open our eyes, our hearts and our minds, to stimulate our faculties of empathy and benevolence towards other animal species in order to question the real place of Man in the midst of this Nature and this abundance of wild life which surrounds him but which he more often than not tends to ignore or with which he finds it difficult to cohabit."
"I have chosen to defend the oppressed: we are waging a merciless war on the other living species that inhabit this planet. My fight is against the injustice done to animals. I'm convinced that photography has a role to play in questioning and highlighting biodiversity and environmental issues. Questioning our environment, whether near or far, in order to raise awareness of current ecological issues, requires us first and foremost to observe. Observation is the starting point of any photographic approach."
Why black & white ? "From black & white I appreciate its wonderful ability to abstract reality, especially in our image-saturated... color-saturated !!! age. Photographing in black & white helps me focus more on shapes, composition, light and shadow. I started photography in the lab with monochrome silver film. I spent a lot of time developing my films and I loved it. When I began my personal work on Africa, I immediately wanted to exploit it in b&w. Africa is rich in color, but for me it's above all a land of light and contrast. I find that black and white adds an aesthetic and dramatic dimension. There's probably also a nostalgic side to it that I can't help having when I see the gradual and inescapable reduction of areas reserved for nature. "
Since 2018 he has been working with SONY Europe, Sony ALPHA bodies & SONY G MASTER optics. a brand for which he is an Ambassador. "I'm attached to the Sony brand, which gives me complete satisfaction, listens to my professional needs and supports me in my projects."
